This was the very last painting my Mother ‘Lorraine Carleton’ ever saw me work on before her passing on January 6th, 2021. It was completed on what would have been her 72nd birthday - February 5th, 2021. I cared for her in her home residence assisting with palliative care and compassion during the last 6 months of her terminal battle with multiple cancers. I painted ‘Oxygen’ with some of her favorite greens, blues, white, and gold. This piece was created to the calming and rhythmic sound of her oxygen machine. The application of paint was firstly done in pigmented washes, then once dry, layered in a multitude of dots. The layering process was rich with thought and emotion, a letting go and a prayer for a transition in to light.
